“Moment of Peace” Acrylic on Linen – Murray Charteris

In the heart of the forest, time holds its breath. Athyrium sits in serene stillness, eyes closed, utterly at home.  In this painting my intention was to capture the peace and harmony that you feel in the rainforest. For me there is nothing more special than walking into the rainforest and taking a deep breath, where all of life’s concerns melt away.

There is no drama here, only belonging. The luminous, dappled light filtering through the canopy feels almost sacred, as though nature itself has paused to exhale.

This painting speaks to something we all quietly crave, that stillness found only when we stop resisting the world around us and simply rest within it. Athyrium doesn’t protect the forest; she is its peace, offered freely to every creature that approaches. To live with this work is to carry that stillness home.

Enfolded in layers of living green, Athyrium embodies the spirit of the rainforest. Tender, powerful, and enduring. Cradled within the confines of the canvas, she pulses with quiet resilience, reminding us that even nature’s vastness can be made vulnerable. Every inch is alive, a tapestry of foliage and breath, asking us to look closer, feel deeper, and remember our kinship with the earth. This piece invites viewers into an intimate communion with the forest. Not as something separate, but as something sacred. Athyrium is not just in the forest; she is the forest, its soul, its memory, its silent plea for protection.
